China's nine-month insecticide production up 7%
Insecticide production in China increased by 7.3% to 514,000 tonnes in the first nine months of 2011, reports the Chinese Crop Protection Industry Association (CCPIA). Insecticides accounted for 26.8% of agrochemical production in the first three quarters. In September alone, insecticide production reached 54,000 tonnes, up by over a quarter (28.6%) on the same month last year. This increase in production came despite fewer occurrences of insect pests and reduced market demand, spelling strong price competition and over-supply in the market, the CCPIA adds. Incidences of insect pests have been lower this year than any since 2002, and sales volumes of “conventional domestic pesticides” have fallen to a three-year low ( Agrow No 625, p 41).
