Bayer reviews US rice claims
Bayer CropScience has begun reviewing the claims of US rice growers seeking to participate in a $750 million damages settlement. The company reached an arrangement with growers’ legal representatives in July over claims of contamination with Bayer’s unregistered genetically modified glufosinate-tolerant LibertyLink rice ( Agrow No 619, p 3). The 90-day period for submitting claims closed on November 21st. The settlement is contingent on the participation of enough growers to represent at least 85% of the US rice acreage. It is likely to be several weeks before the level of participation can be determined, a company spokesperson told Agrow.
