Bayer seeks Australian GM cotton tests
Bayer CropScience has applied to the Australian Office of the Gene Technology Regulator (OGTR) to field test genetically modified insect-resistant and herbicide-tolerant cotton. Details of the introduced genes are confidential. The company plans to test the cotton on up to 36 ha at four sites in New South Wales and Western Australia between May 2012 and May 2015. Plantings would not exceed 4 ha in the first year and 16 ha in the second and third years of testing. The OGTR expects to issue a risk assessment and risk management plant in February 2012.
