EU phase-out for cinidon-ethyl and cyclanilide

The European Commission has formally adopted the decision for an extended phase-out of the herbicide, cinidon-ethyl, and the plant growth regulator, cyclanilide. The action is because no applications to renew the existing EU approvals were received by the deadline ( Agrow No 626, p 6). As a result, the grace periods for using existing stocks are 18 months, rather than the normal 12 months. EU member states have to withdraw approvals for cyclanilide by April 30th 2012, but can allow sales to continue until October 31st 2012 and stocks to be used until October 31st 2013. Cinidon-ethyl approvals must be withdrawn by September 30th 2012, while sales can be allowed until March 31st 2013 and the use of stocks until March 31st 2014. The two active ingredients were in the second group of ais to go through the EU renewal programme, but are no longer eligible for the approval extensions granted until 2015 to complete the process.
