Performance Plants/Biocentury Transgene deal
Canadian biotechnology company Performance Plants Inc (PPI - Kingston, Ontario) and Chinese seed company Biocentury Transgene (Shenzen) have agreed a licensing deal for PPI’s heat and drought tolerance technology (HDT). Biocentury will have exclusive rights to use the Canadian company’s HDT technology platform in cotton in China. Biocentury plans to incorporate the stress tolerance traits in its own genetically modified insect-resistant rice lines. PPI agreed similar licensing deals with other Chinese seed companies, including the Hybrid Rapeseed Research Center (Shaanxi) and Da Bei Nong Technology Group (Beijing). The latter agreement covered the use of PPI’s technology in maize and a four-year R&D contract focusing on rice and soybeans.
