French ban on GM maize cancelled

The French council of state, the Conseil d’État, has cancelled the order of the Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries banning Monsanto’s genetically modified insect-resistant MON810 maize. The Council advises the government on the preparation of draft laws and decrees and adjudicates on disputes relating to government actions. Monsanto appealed to it over the French government’s suspension of the sale and use of seeds of the GM line in December 2007 ( Agrow No 534, p 10) and a cultivation ban in February 2008 ( Agrow No 535, p 11).
