US EPA to reinstate LPE approval
The US EPA proposes to register South Korean company Doosan Corporation’s plant growth regulator, SignaFresh 10EC (lysophosphatidylethanolamine - LPE), as a biopesticide. It is used for enhancing fruit quality, ripening and shelf life of various fruits, vegetables and flowers. The active ingredient is a natural constituent of all living cell membranes, the EPA notes. It was originally registered by the US company, Nutra-Park, in 2002 ( Agrow No 399, p 27), but the approval lapsed after Nutra-Park went out of business in 2008. The proposed reinstatement of the registration is open to public comment until December 30th.
