Australia approves Bayer's GM hybrid canola

The Australian Office of the Gene Technology Regulator (OGTR) has approved the commercial planting of Bayer CropScience’s genetically modified glufosinate- and glyphosate-tolerant hybrid canola. The OGTR concluded in August that the InVigor x Roundup Ready canola posed negligible risks to people or the environment ( Agrow No 623, p 18). The hybrid was produced by conventional breeding of two GM lines, which were approved individually in 2003. However, InVigor canola has never been grown commercially in Australia.
