China's ten-month agchem production up 16%
China manufactured 2.1 million tonnes of pesticides in the first ten months of 2011, an increase of 16.1% on the same period last year, reports China’s National Development and Reform Commission. Herbicides were the largest category and grew by 10.8% to 940,000 tonnes. Insecticide production from January to October increased by 9.2% this year, reaching 571,000 tonnes, while fungicides inched up by 1.6% to 127,000 tonnes. Total production for the month of October increased by 26.6% on last October to 219,000 tonnes. China is expected to produce some 2.6 million tonnes of pesticides this year. It produced 2.7 million tonnes of agrochemicals in 2010, up 18.8% on the previous year ( Agrow No 614, pp 28-29).
