Swedes seek high/novel oil GM crambe trials

The Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (Alnarp) has applied to the EU for permission to conduct field trials of crambe genetically modified to produce industrial quality oils, including wax esters that are novel products for crambe. If approved, the field trials will take place between May 2011 and December 2016 at sites in Skepparslöv (from in 2012) and, optionally, Lomma and Kävlinge (2013–16). The total area of plantings in any one year will not exceed 3 ha.
