Bayer GM rice settlement proceeds
Bayer CropScience has confirmed that enough verified claims for damages have been filed by US rice growers to enable its $750 million settlement to proceed. It was open to farmers growing long-grain rice between 2006 and 2010 who were concerned about contamination by Bayer’s unregistered genetically modified glufosinate-tolerant LibertyLink rice. The settlement was contingent on the participation of enough growers to represent at least 85% of the US acreage. The 90-day period for submitting claims closed on November 21st ( Agrow No 629, p 2).
