German study highlights gains of pesticide use

The use of agrochemicals in Germany brings about an annual gain of some €4,000 million ($5,334 million) and the absence of fungicides for use by farmers would lead to an annual loss of around €870 million ($1,160 million). These are the findings of a study by the German Humboldt University, reports the German crop protection association, the IVA, which commissioned the research. The multi-level research sought to quantify the social benefits of crop protection and the first module of the study focusing on market effects has been published.
