US EPA to OK Scotts' mycoherbicides
The US EPA has proposed the approval of two Phoma macrostoma-based mycoherbicides from Scotts (Marysville, Ohio) for pre- and post-emergence control of broadleaf weeds in turf and ornamanentals. Phoma H and Phoma P (both P macrostoma strain 94-44B 92%) are for residential and professional use, respectively. The products were developed in collaboration with Agriculture and Agr-Food Canada ( Agrow No 444, p 22). Scotts applied for US approval in 2010 ( Agrow No 588, p 24). The company sought joint review by the US and Canadian authorities. The Canadian Pest Management Regulatory Authority granted conditional approvals for three end-use products under the EcoSense Weed-B Gon and Phoma P Commercial brands in November. The US approval decision is open to public comment until January 6th 2012.
