Mexico approves GM Bollgard II RR Flex cotton
Mexico has approved the commercial planting of Monsanto’s genetically modified insect-resistant and glyphosate-tolerant Bollgard II RR Flex (MON15985xMON88913) cotton. The country’s food quality and health service, the Senasica, authorised the product this month. It protects the crop against lepidopteran pests such as cotton leafworms ( Alabama argillacea), tobacco budworms ( Heliothis virescens), pink bollworms ( Pectinophora gossypiella) and fall armyworms ( Spodoptera frugiperda). The stacked-trait line had already been approved in the country for import, and use in food and feed. It was first approved in Australia in 2006 ( Agrow No 491, p 19), and has since been authorised in Colombia, South Africa, and Costa Rica.
