China's 11-month pesticide production up 20%
Chinese agrochemical production increased by 19.5% during the first 11 months of 2011 to 2.4 million tonnes, reports the China Crop Protection Industry Association. Herbicides, the largest category, accounted for some 44.5% of the total, with production amounting to 1.1 million tonnes. Insecticides came in second at 629,500 tonnes, accounting for 26.5% of the total, while fungicides made up just 5.8% of production, at 136,800 tonnes. Jiangsu province was the leading manufacturer of agrochemicals in the first 11 months of last year, where production amounted to 680,000 tonnes, accounting for 22.8% of the national total. Other major agrochemical producing regions included: Shandong (20% of the total), Zhejiang (9.3%) and Hubei (7.8%) provinces.
