Brazil almost hits organic crop grower target
Almost 15,000 farmers in Brazil have registered with the Ministry of Agriculture as organic crop farmers. That represents “positive” growth in the area although it fell just short of target, the Ministry’s agro-ecology co-ordinator, Rogério Dias, says. The Ministry created a logo at the start of last year that identifies produce as organic, and set up a register of organic crop growers ( Agrow No 607, p 17). The first pesticide registered for organic crop production, Biotesia, was approved in 2011 ( Agrow No 628, p ).
