Bayer replaces Ignite with Liberty in US

Bayer CropScience is to replace its Ignite (glufosinate-ammonium) herbicide brand in the US with the global Liberty brand for use on its genetically modified glufosinate-tolerant LibertyLink crops. It plans to more closely associate the herbicide with its LibertyLink cotton, canola, soybean and maize crops this season. Adoption of the system is increasing rapidly due to “growing weed resistance to glyphosate and the excellent germplasm performance”, says Al Luke, Bayer’s head of broad-acre crop marketing. “Bayer is investing to increase the global production of Liberty herbicide and help ensure adequate supplies, especially in the rapidly expanding US market.”
