China urges caution as 2,4-D production increases
Production of the herbicide, 2,4-D, in China saw marked growth during 2011, fueling fears that the market may go the way of the herbicide, glyphosate, because of through over-production, reports the Chinese Crop Protection Industry Association (CCPIA). Two Chinese agrochemical companies, Changzhou Wintafone Chemical and Shandong Weifang Rainbow Chemical, produced a combined output of more than 30,000 tonnes of the active ingredient throughout the year, an increase of over 20% on their output for the previous year. In November last year, China's authorities awarded 2,4-D registrations to Shandong Keyuan Chemical, Jingma Chemicals and Jiangsu Nantong Taihe Chemical. Other companies such as Hubei Sanonda are also in the process of registering the ai, the CCPIA adds.
