US EPA to OK Bio-ferm biopesticides
The US EPA proposes to register a biofungicide and a bactericide based on the fungus, Aureobasidium pullulans, from Austrian company Bio-Ferm (Tulln). Botector ( A pullulans strain DSM 14940 50% + A pullulans strain DSM 14941 50%) is for the control of storage diseases on pome and citrus fruit and for use on grapevines, strawberries and stone fruit to control diseases such as Botrytis cinerea and Monilia spp. Blossom Protect ( A pullulans strain DSM 14940 32.25% + A pullulans strain DSM 14941 32.25%) is for the control of fireblight ( Erwinia amylovora) on pome fruit. The EPA notified the registration application in March 2010 ( Agrow No 588, p 24). The approval decision is open to public comment until January 22nd.
