BASF debuts own US topramezone herbicide
BASF has introduced its own brand of topramezone herbicide in the US. Armezon is a post-emergence maize herbicide for the control of grasses and broadleaf weeds. The hyrdroxyphenylpyruvate dioxygenase (HPPD) inhibitor provides control of weeds with resistance to glyphosate, triazines, acetolactate synthase (ALS) inhibitors and acetyl CoA carboxylase (ACCase) inhibitors, BASF points out. Its introduction has been prompted by the continued spread of resistant weeds. American Vanguard has been marketing topramezone as Impact since 2006 under an exclusive 2005 licensing deal with BASF ( Agrow No 469, p 1). Amvac continues to have the right to sell Impact, a BASF spokesperson told Agrow. The deal allowed BASF to enter the market after December 31st 2011, an Amvac representative added.
