Certis USA debuts Cyd-X HP
Mitsui & Co’s US biopesticide subsidiary, Certis USA (Columbia, Maryland), is introducing a more potent version of its established bioinsecticide, Cyd-X ( Cydia pomonella granulosis virus), in the US for the control of codling moths ( C pomonella) in apples and pears. It will be available in “select states” this season, the company notes. Cyd-X HP is “the most potent codling moth virus product ever introduced”, says Certis USA’s NAFTA executive vice-president, Tim Daminco. Larvae only need to ingest one or two virus occlusion bodies to cause a lethal infection, the company points out. Cyd-X HP is effective at 0.5-3 fl oz/acre (0.04-0.2 litre/ha), which is half the rate recommended for Cyd-X.
