Positive EFSA opinion for GA21 cultivation

The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) has given a positive safety assessment to Syngenta’s application for the cultivation of its genetically modified glyphosate-tolerant GA21 maize in the EU. GA21 is unlikely to raise environmental safety concerns, provided appropriate measures are put in place to manage the use of glyphosate herbicide, the EFSA concludes. Syngenta’s maize line gained EU approval for import, processing and use in food and feed in 2008 ( Agrow No 541, p 9).
