EU predicts stable crop area to 2020

The EU arable area is expected to stay stable over the next few years, but with some reallocation between crops, forecasts the European Commission. Maize and soft wheat will continue to increase their share at the expense of other cereals, notably barley. European farmers look set to benefit from firm grain prices due to growing demand, says the Commission in its annual update of the agricultural outlook to 2020.
