China CCPIA drafts glyphosate emission reforms

The Chinese Crop Protection Industry Association (CCPIA) has drafted a set of industrial wastewater emission standards to govern the manufacture of organophosphate pesticides in China. It submitted the draft this month to the Chinese Ministry of Environmental Protection for consideration. If ratified, the standards would result in mandatory environmental inspections for all of China's glyphosate herbicide manufacturing facilities. Last year, the Chinese glyphosate manufacturers' consortium, headed by the CCPIA, submitted a petition to government departments requesting new policies to help ensure effective supervision of the national glyphosate industry ( Agrow No 615, p 26).
