Bayer/Cellectis ink meganuclease deal
Bayer CropScience and French genomics company Cellectis’ US subsidiary, Cellectis Plant Sciences (Saint Paul, Minnesota), have agreed a research collaboration for the use of Cellectis’ proprietary meganuclease technology to develop commercial products for the agricultural seed markets using new breeding techniques such as gene stacking and targeted mutagenesis. Cellectis will provide Bayer with custom-designed meganucleases for plant genomes, to introduce targeted modifications to selected genes and genomes. The agreement is a broadening of a collaboration deal between the two companies that began in 2006 ( Agrow No 499, p 5). Financial terms have not been disclosed.
