BASF/VIB join forces in TopYield project

BASF Plant Science and Belgian research institute VIB (Ghent) have signed a multi-year co-operation agreement aimed at developing novel technology to identify genes and synergistic gene networks that control crop yields and drought tolerance. The “TopYield” project will involve 20 full-time researchers of VIB at Ghent University and is the largest collaboration that has ever been entered into by VIB in the field of plant biotechnology, it notes. BASF will focus on testing and validating the research results in its laboratory, greenhouse and screening facilities, mainly at the company’s research site in Ghent.
