French court finds Monsanto guilty of chemical poisoning

A French court in Lyon has ruled Monsanto guilty of chemical poisoning of a French farmer who inhaled the herbicide, Lasso (alachlor), while cleaning the tank of his crop sprayer. The incident involving the farmer, Paul Francois, occurred in 2004, Reuters reports. The European Commission ordered the withdrawal of approval for alachlor in EU member states in June 2007 ( Agrow No 511, p 6).
