Precision BioSciences enlarges DNE patent portfolio

US genome engineering company Precision Biosciences (PBL - Research Triangle Park, North Carolina) has been granted a patent covering its engineered meganuclease technology by the European Patent Office. The patent, EP 10 191 888, protects PBL’s claims regarding what it calls “rationally designed meganucleases and methods for their use for the production of genetically modified cells and organisms”. These methods also include uses of engineered meganucleases as a therapeutic and constitute an important aspect of the company’s genome engineering technology, known as the Directed Nuclease Editor (DNE).
