MAI invests in seed technology firm Nrgene
ChemChina subsidiary Makhteshim-Agan Industries (MAI) has signed an investor deal with Israeli seed breeding technology company Nrgene (Ness-Ziona). MAI is to become a “strategic investor” in the developer of software-based genetic tools. The company’s tools employ “cutting edge” genomic analysis to identify genetic markers for complex traits that are controlled by multiple genes within the breeding populations of various crops. The technology helps breeders by increasing the probability of enhancing the breeding process and cutting the time to market for crop plant varieties, the companies say. The deal is in line with MAI’s plans for its novel agricultural technologies division, it notes.
