Brazil approves biofungicide Tricovarb
The Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture has approved the marketing and use of the biofungicide, Tricovarb. It is for the control of witches’ broom disease ( Moniliophtora perniciosa) on cocoa. The government agency, cocoa farming plan’s executive commission, the Ceplac, developed the biofungicide. Tricovarb is obtained from the laboratory fermentation of the fungus, Trichoderma stromaticum. The product inhibits the reproduction of witches’ broom by up to 99% in soil and by almost 57% in cocoa trees, the Ministry says. It is recommended as water-diluted spray.
