ChemChina looks to link MAI and Hubei Sanonda
The state-owned Chinese chemical giant, ChemChina Agchem, hopes to oversee strategic co-operation between two of its subsidiaries: 60%-owned Israel-based Makhteshim-Agan Industries (MAI) and wholly owned Chinese chemical company Hubei Sanonda, according to local Chinese media reports. Representatives from MAI visited Sanonda’s manufacturing base in Jingzhou, located in China’s Hubei Province, for multi-party talks between both companies and local government officials last month. MAI currently has no manufacturing base in China, the reports note. Liu Yue, deputy general manager at ChemChina Agchem, noted that the purpose of the visit was to “make sparks fly” between the two companies, and said that if an opportunity for co-operation is found, both parties will be better able to exploit domestic and international market resources. Jingzhou’s municipal party leaders expressed their intention to do everything possible to help realise any potential co-operation plans.
