BASF seeks US approval for Engenia
BASF has applied for US approval for its new dicamba herbicide formulation, Engenia, for use with Monsanto’s genetically modified dicamba-tolerant soybeans. Engenia will control more than 100 broadleaf weeds, including glyphosate-resistant Palmer amaranth and waterhemp (both Amaranthus spp), marestail ( Conyza canadensis), velvetleaf ( Abutilon theophrasti), morning-glory ( Ipomoea spp) and giant ragweed ( Ambrosia trifida), BASF notes. The company chose the Engenia brand after a three-year collaboration with Monsanto on the development of new dicamba formulations ( Agrow No 633, p 21). BASF expects US approval for Engenia in line with Monsanto’s planned introduction of dicamba-tolerant soybeans in 2014.
