Two Blades/Monsanto ink licensing deal

The US charitable group, the Two Blades Foundation (2Blades – Evanston, Illinois), has granted a non-exclusive licence for its TAL (Transcription Activator Like) Code technology to Monsanto for genome engineering in plants. It allows targeted gene activation or repression and genome modifications. In turn, 2Blades will gain access to Monsanto’s improvements to the technology for use in its humanitarian efforts in support of subsistence farming. It holds exclusive rights for the commercialisation of TAL technology, which was developed at Germany’s Martin Luther University (Halle). A similar licensing deal was agreed between the Foundation and Syngenta in January ( Agrow No 632 p2).
