Brazil agchem labels to carry toxicity colour

Pesticide labels in Brazil are to carry obligatory coloured “toxicology bands”. The Ministry of Agriculture has issued the regulation, Ato 11, making such labels compulsory from October 1st. The bands will also be placed on booklets detailing safe use procedures for products. There has not yet been any legal requirement for the exterior of product labels to carry the same colour code as the booklets. “This will settle the question of whether the colour of strips should be carried on the product label,” the Ministry pesticide office co-ordinator Luis Eduardo Rangel says. The alteration in labels will be required for products that have already been packaged and labelled.
