Australia approves Bayer's GM cotton tests
The Australian Office of the Gene Technology Regulator (OGTR) has approved Bayer CropScience’s request to conduct small-scale field tests of genetically modified insect-resistant and herbicide-tolerant cotton. The events involved remain confidential but all but one of the 11 lines have been subject to OGTR-approved trials. The latest tests would cover a cumulative total of 78 ha between May 2012 and May 2015. In February, the OGTR concluded that the proposed tests posed negligible risks to human health or the environment ( Agrow No 634, p 16).
