MEPs seek local approach to CAP greening measures

EU proposals to introduce mandatory crop diversification and rotation should be adjusted to reflect conditions in different member states, says the European Parliament. While welcoming the proposed “greening” measures, which form part of a planned revision of the EU Common Agricultural Policy (CAP), the MEPs argue that EU-wide thresholds on the size of farm and amount of land affected are not practical. More account should be taken of local agricultural systems and the types of crops grown, they say.
