Bayer/2Blades ink TAL licensing deal
The US charitable group, the Two Blades Foundation (2Blades – Evanston, Illinois), has granted a non-exclusive licence for its TAL (Transcription Activator Like) Code technology to Bayer CropScience for commercial application in crops. It allows targeted gene activation or repression and genome modifications. In turn, 2Blades will gain access to Bayer’s improvements to the technology for use in its humanitarian efforts in support of subsistence farming. It holds exclusive rights for the commercialisation of TAL Code technology, which was developed at Germany’s Martin Luther University (Halle). Similar licensing deals have been previously agreed with Monsanto and Syngenta ( Agrow No 638, p29).
