Maize insecticides boost Amvac's Q1

Strong sales of granular soil insecticides on maize boosted American Vanguard’s agrochemical revenues by 32.1% to $87.3 million in the first quarter of 2012. Sales of the company’s closed system SmartBox applicators doubled this year and are expected to double again next year, says Amvac’s chairman and CEO Eric Wintemute. The company’s recommendation to apply soil insecticides with genetically modified insect-resistant maize is “gaining traction” in the US Mid-West, Mr Wintemute points out.
