Arysta launches B bassiana for IPM in Japan
Arysta LifeScience has launched US biopesticide company Laverlam International’s (Butte, Montana) bioinsecticide, BotaniGard WP ( Beauveria bassiana strain GHA), for IPM use in Japan. Arysta has been marketing an emulsifiable suspension formulation of BotaniGard in Japan since 2002, for the control of thrips, whiteflies and Lepidoptera insects. But the product has shown side effects against predatory mites such as Amblyseius swirskii. The wettable powder formulation is much less harmful to predatory mites and is compatible with IPM programmes in greenhouse vegetables such as strawberries, sweet peppers, aubergines and cucumbers, Arysta says. Laverlam acquired the biopesticide business of US firm Emerald BioAgriculture, including BotaniGard, in 2004 ( Agrow No 462, p 1).
