ASTM proposes bee testing standard

The US-based standards organisation, ASTM International (West Conshohocken, Pennsylvania), has proposed a new standard for assessing the effect of pesticides and genetically modified crops on insect pollinators. It would use laboratory-reared honeybee larvae to assess effects on honeybees and other beneficial organisms. The standard (ASTM WK36581) is being developed by a subcommittee of Committee E47 on Biological Effects and Environmental Fate.
