US EUP extension for Syngenta's Duracade
The US EPA has extended an experimental use permit (EUP) for Syngenta to test its genetically modified insect-resistant Duracade (5307) maize in combination with other GM maize lines. Duracade expresses the Bt eCry3.1Ab toxin for the control of corn rootworms ( Diabrotica spp – Agrow No 630, p 22). The latest EUP also covers Syngenta’s Bt11 (Cry1Ab), MIR162 (Vip3Aa20) and MIR604 (mCry3A), and Dow AgroSciences/DuPont’s Herculex 1 (TC1507 – Cry1F) and Herculex RW (DAS59122 – Cry 34Ab1 + Cry35Ab1). The EUP covers 3,796 acres (1,536 ha) of GM maize in 28 states plus Puerto Rico. It expires on December 31st 2013.
