US uni seeks mosquito control EUP
The US University of Kentucky’s department of entomology has requested an experimental use permit (EUP) from the EPA to allow the release of male Aedes polynesienis mosquitoes infected with the bacterium, Wolbachia pipientis. The release would take place in American Samoa. The infected male mosquitoes would mate with indigenous female mosquitoes, resulting in sterility and population suppression. The EUP request is open to public comment until June 7th.
