EU to phase out dichlorvos and naled biocides
Dichlorvos- and naled-based products for non-crop insecticide/acaricide use will not be permitted for sale in the EU with effect from November 1st, the European Commission says. The move comes after the Commission decided not to grant approval for the active ingredients under the EU biocidal products Directive (98/8 – Agrow No 635, p 8). The evaluations of both ais showed a potential and unacceptable risk to human health and the environment. In addition, the naled assessment did not demonstrate sufficient efficacy. Dichlorvos failed to gain EU re-registration for agrochemical use in 2007, while naled’s agrochemical uses were phased out in the same year ( Agrow ibid).
