Science panel to examine atrazine in US

The US EPA’s FIFRA (Federal Insecticide, Fungicide and Rodenticide Act) Scientific Advisory Panel (SAP) is to hold a four-day meeting next month to review environmental fate and ecological risk assessment issues surrounding the herbicide, atrazine. The EPA will present a refined methodology for determining the magnitude and frequency of atrazine exposures below which significant changes in aquatic plant communities are not expected. It will also present a review of atrazine studies with amphibians published since the SAP last examined this issue in 2007. The Agency aims to use the SAP findings as it prepares to start the atrazine registration review in 2013. The SAP meeting will take place on June 12th-15th.
