ECHA consults on labels for four ais
The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) is seeking comments on proposals for EU-wide harmonised classification and labelling of four pesticide active ingredients: the herbicides, isoxaflutole, tembotrione and metosulam; and the wood preservative, potassium sorbate. The proposal for isoxaflutole is for the addition of an acute multiplying factor (M-factor) of ten, and a chronic M-factor of 100. For tembotrione, it is for skin sensitisation, specific target organ toxicity – repeated exposure, and hazardous to the aquatic environment. For metosulam, it lists carcinogenicity, specific target organ toxicity – repeated exposure, and hazardous to the aquatic environment. For potassium sorbate, it is for skin irritation and serious eye irritation. Bayer CropScience received EU approval for isoxaflutole in 2003, metosulam in 2011, and is awaiting approval for tembotrione ( Agrow No 638, p 9). Cheminova and Daicel (Europe) have applied for EU biocide approval for potassium sorbate. The ECHA’s deadline for comments is June 28th.
