Burkina Faso not abandoning Bt cotton
Burkina Faso is not abandoning genetically modified cotton lines, contrary to a French press report, the director of cotton development at processor company Sofitex, Dr Dehou Dakuo, says. The director gave an interview to newswire Lepays saying that the report “surprised” him and that suppliers were not abandoning Monsanto’s insect-resistant Bt cotton. He added that others in the supply chain did not understand where the report could have come from. French newswire RFI reported that cotton suppliers were switching back to conventional lines, blaming “disappointing” performance of the GM lines, with yields not meeting expectations.
