US approval for MBI bioherbicide

The US biopesticide company, Marrone Bio Innovations (MBI - Davis, California), has received US approval for its bioherbicide, MBI-005 (non-viable Streptomyces acidiscabies strain RL-110 17%), for use on a range of food crops, turf and ornamentals. The EPA proposed the approval in March ( Agrow No 636, p 20). The product shows broad-spectrum pre-emergence activity and selective post-emergence control of broadleaf weeds and sedges in turf and crops such as wheat, maize and rice, MBI points out.
