US EPA finalises 2012 fumigant allocation
The US EPA has allocated some 1,023 tonnes of the fumigant, methyl bromide, for critical uses in 2012. It has decided to stick with its October 2011 proposal to allow the use of 263.1 tonnes of existing stocks, with 759.7 tonnes coming from new production or imports ( Agrow No 627, p 16). When the proposal was issued, the EPA had assumed that year-end stocks would amount to 692.1 tonnes, but it was later determined that stocks actually amounted to 1,248.9 tonnes. In view of the time-sensitive need to finalise critical use exemptions for 2012, the Agency decided not to revise its proposed allocations and reissue them for public comment.
