Canadian container collection slips again
Over 4.4 million empty pesticide containers were collected in Canada in 2011. That compares with over 4.5 million containers in 2010 and some 4.6 million containers a year earlier ( Agrow No 617, p 15). The industry’s CleanFarms organisation again attributes the downturn to weather-related issues in the prairie provinces where a large area could not be planted and the need for pesticides was reduced. Collections in the prairie provinces of Alberta and Saskatchewan accounted for 64.5% of the total.
