Monsanto to build second Argentine maize plant
Monsanto is to build a second maize seed processing plant in Argentina. The company will invest some 1,600 million pesos ($355 million at the current rate), and employ 400 people. A plan has been presented to the government, including 170 million pesos ($38 million) of funding for research and development. That will involve the construction of two field trial sites in two provinces, the development of maize and soybean R&D programmes, field trials and national biotechnology research, and the expansion of laboratories, the company says. It will be opened in December 2013 near the city of Cordoba.
